We got promoted too early?

by ddetisi » 24 Sep 2012 22:37

When we lost at Wembley v Bolton it was said that actually had we been promoted that we would have been vastly under prepared. Elm Park was not a Premiership ground etc.

In the Eyes of the AZ when he took control, i would put it that the Mad Stad and the Training ground we're in affect like Elm Park to him. Not really up to the standard that is expected for the premiership, under performing on potential attendances and the main priority for him in a long term plan is to improve those things first, before the team. The difference this time is we got promoted, which was acknowledged by AZ as a bit of a lucky break for him.

So possibly the thinking when spending in the summer 'the reading way' was because the clubs main goal this year regardless of what league we are in is to create an environment where we can be an established club and we won't see kind of spending that we (at the moment) look like we need on the Team for years.

Should have bought Defoe, Yo yo club future, Zingarevich Out, Chainrai in etc etc etc

Probably promoted too soon to have a good chance of establishing ourselves this time around. But with the right handling we could bounce back from relegation stronger than this season. Parachute payments aren't a bad thing for us afterall.

Very true and financially it will aid the cause. I'm just unsure as to whether the expectation of big new signings will be met until the Club can sustain those type of players. WBA and some others had a few years of Ups and Downs before they really established themselves, so not being negative as such just long term positive.

yes it's really easy to decide when you get promoted so can only put this down to
bad planning from the board

We're not relegated yet.

We won the Championship, so we're here, get over it.

Don't think we were promoted too early, just maybe a little naive about what it takes to stay up in terms of players. We can talk about slow starts being the norm, but not in this league. The performance vs spurs was poor, but even allowing for that there was a vast technical gulf between the teams. I may be surprised, but I doubt it. Have seen enough in 4 games to suggest we are probably the worst team in the league. Pog looks terrible, the rest of the team look disinterested. The only player who has caught my eye is ALF, who at least looks enthusiastic. On the upside, I agree with above in respect that should we get relegated the parachute payments will help, although it would remain to be seen if that was spent improving he squad for another crack a this.

Given the new increased financial rewards starting next season, is say this was a great time for the club to go up, all we need to do now is stay up

Agree its been a disappointing start but no team gets relegated in September.

November looks a big month with us playing sides you would expect us to get something from. If we are bottom at end of November then I will worry.

The Pog was good at Chelsea but been out of sorts in the other games. He needs a chance. We know he is a good player, as proven at Fulham.

Hopefully Kebe and Roberts coming back it will give us more options. It seems our bench looks very weak at times, no players able to come off it and change the game (exept Le Fondre)

If people thought this was going to be easy, then they're idiots. We're one win from being in a respectable position. Admittedly, it's not easy to see where the win will come from, but then that was the case with virtually every game last year. The team will get going - a dodgy goal here on there then we'll be really up and running. Keep faith.

Yes! To compete effectively, we probably need a little more quality in the side though. Catch 22 for a newly promoted side with reasonable financial backing, but which is not, (at the moment), anywhere near the big league.

This is it. I’m not happy with the situation but we’ve got a missing game so it artificially looks even worse than it is.

You can't ever be promoted too early - because if you wait for when you're "ready" you may never get the chance again. And who's to say what "ready" means?

All you can do is take the opportunity when it comes along and make the most of it - and for most clubs either take the risk of throwing money in to try and stay up (assuming you have somewhere for that money to come from) - or just do the best you can and know that you'll be in a better financial position to bounce back if you're relegated.
