Wimb As for Thor, I'm just basing it on the fact that he's not getting played despite being here for 2 months now. Maccy D obviously doesn't see THAT much in him and we have plenty of options in that area. With money being tight it seems wise to keep that 300k to strengthen areas such as the defence.
Do you know how long Sigardsson was here before he started getting games? You could argue that Steve Coppell didn't see that much in him or you could argue that he was being developed into the player he is today.

I think you could argue that....if you were a bit mental Forbes!

Thorvaldsson is a seasoned pro (27/28 years old) and was bought in on a short term loan to supplement the first team forwards.

Sigurdsson has been here for years, but only because he came over as a kid of 13 or 14. I'm not surprised he wasn't in starting 11 straight away!
Even oldies take time to adapt.

GKs
Federici
Andersen
Hamer
McCarthy

Current theory is that you need at least 3 GKs on your books so we could prolly loan out one of those, but otherwise it looks a reasonable list.

Defenders

Rosenior
Armstrong
Mills
Ingimarsson
Kelly
Pearce
Cummings

Jeez, we look like light here. Rosenior won't have his contract renewed as he'll be too expensive. Ingi may well not take the offer of another year. Armstrong doesn't look like he'll recover - and prolly won't be the same player if he does. That makes this short list even worse looking. So, 2 new FBs and one if not 2 new CBs if Ingi walks.

Midfielders

McAnuff
Cisse
Gunnarsson
Tabb
Matejovsky
Henry
Karacan
Kebe
Sigurdsson
Davies
Antonio
Howard
Bryant
Taylor
Bozanic

By contrast with the defenders, that looks way too long. Cisse and Marek haven't been getting games so are highly likely to go. Wouldn't be surprised if Boris decides not to take the offer of another year, which may leave a vacancy for a more defensive midfielder (I must confess to not knowing what Bryant's, Bozanic's or Taylor's strengths are). Henry and Davies (or Robson Kanu) are adequate cover for the 1st choice wingers. From the (admittedly very short) time I've seen of Antonio, I wouldn't be disappointed if he left.

Forwards

Long
Hunt
Mooney
Church
Robson-Kanu
Rasiak
Bignall
Vasilev
Bell-Baggie
Thorvaldsson

Second half of the season has shown that we're OK in this department, IMO. Wouldn't be sorry if Rasiak went, but perhaps it would be a bit harsh after only one season.

So, it's defence that we're crying, nay screaming, out for replenishments with 2 FBs and 1 probably 2 CBs needed - if we could persuade/come up with the dosh for this season's loanees I would be happy.

If he's not good enough to get on the bench in the last few months then I think it's probably more than just a problem settling in.

We can't afford to carry passengers, so I'd be amazed if anyone seriously thought he was worth a place in the squad once this loan deal runs out.

When you look at that list it drives home the lack of defenders.

Gonna need two 1st choice full backs a centre half to really push Mills/Pearce and a centre half who's happy to provide cover a prob need to be able to play full back too.

Really hope Ivar/Bryn stay just to provide some over, but think both will get better deals elsewhere.

The positive is you realy can't see cutting/rasing £4m being a problem.

Wax Jacket there's got to be someone out there interested enough in signing Shane Long, surely

Perhaps Coppell will sign him as an impact sub.
I think Shane has had his chance now - he hasn't got the ball control or first touch; he doesn't appear to be a natural goalscorer; and he keeps giving too many free kicks away when his frustration gets the better of him.

Here's my thoughts.....

GKs
Federici - KEEP
Andersen - KEEP
Hamer - SELL - WE DON'T NEED 4 AND YOUNGER KEEPERS HAVE MORE PROMISE
McCarthy - KEEP (LOAN EITHER HIM OR ANDERSEN AFTER PRE-SEASON ON SHORT TERM LOANS)

Defenders

Rosenior - LET GO
Armstrong - FINGERS CROSSED HE RECOVERS
Mills - STAY
Ingimarsson - LET GO TO BRIZZLE
Kelly - STAY / LOAN
Pearce - STAY
Cummings - STAY - HOPE BRIAN CAN DO A KEBE ON HIM
Griffin - SIGN HIM UP
Zurab - PROBABLY CAN'T AFFORD HIM
Bertrand - WILL WANT TO GO BACK TO PREM AND MAYBE LOAN TO ANOTHER PREM CLUB, IF WE HAVE ANY CHANCE OF A LOAN THEN GO FOR IT

Midfielders

McAnuff - KEEP
Cisse - SELL OR TURN INTO A CB
Gunnarsson - RELUCTANTLY LET HIM GO TO REDUCE WAGES UNLESS HE WILL DO A LOW COST PAY AS YOU PLAY
Tabb - KEEP
Matejovsky - SELL
Henry - RELUCTANTLY SELL AS I CAN'T SEE HIM GETTING IN AHEAD OF KEBE AND MCANUFF AND WE HAVE ANTONIO TOO & NEED MORE LEFT SIDED PLAYERS
Karacan - KEEP
Kebe - KEEP
Sigurdsson - KEEP
Davies - RELUCTANTLY SELL, HE NEEDS FIRST TEAM FOOTBALL, UNLESS HE IS PREPARED TO BECOME OUR RIGHT BACK
Antonio - KEEP - LOAN TO SOUTHAMPTON FOR A MONTH AFTER PRE-SEASON
Howard - KEEP
Bryant - LOAN OR LET GO, HIS LOANS HAVE BEEN TO VERY LOW RANKED TEAMS
Taylor - KEEP
Bozanic - LET GO - CAN'T EVEN GET IN ALDERSHOT TEAM REGULARLY
Bell-Baggie - KEEP BUT LOAN - SEE HIM AS YET ANOTHER RIGHT WINGER, BUT YOUNG AND LOADS OF POTENTIAL

Forwards

Long - KEEP UNLESS WE CAN GET £2M PLUS AND REPLACE WITH SOMEONE WHO OFFERS HIS MOBILITY AND HEADING, BUT CAN SHOOT AS WELL...
Hunt - KEEP
Mooney - SELL
Church - KEEP
Robson-Kanu - KEEP
Rasiak - SELL (HUNT CAN DO WHAT HE DID THIS YEAR IF NOT MORE)
Bignall - LOAN
Vasilev - LET GO
Thor - LET GO

So, we need another LB as priority (could be a season loan) and a centre back with experience to replace Ivar/Zurab with Cisse or Bryn covering. I think we also need a left sided midfielder ideally, but we could cope playing Jobi on the wrong side covered by Tabb, Sig, HRK as alternatives as we have loads of other midfielders. We may have to do with Kelly/Cummings/Davies as RB's if the budget needs to be cut, but hoepfully Griffin will come and we can let Davies and one of the other RB's go.

GK's

Federici KEEP
Andersen LOAN
Hamer KEEP
McCarthy LOAN

Defenders

Rosenior Gone
Armstrong KEEP
Mills KEEP
Ingimarsson Let go
Kelly LOAN
Pearce KEEP
Cummings Keep

Midfielders

McAnuff KEEP
Cisse SELL
Gunnarsson Keep
Tabb KEEP
Matejovsky SELL
Henry KEEP
Karacan KEEP
Kebe KEEP
Sigurdsson KEEP
Davies Keep
Antonio LOAN
Howard KEEP
Bryant LOAN
Taylor LOAN
Bozanic LOAN

Forwards

Long KEEP
Hunt KEEP
Mooney SELL
Church KEEP
Robson-Kanu Loan
Rasiak Def get rid
Bignall LOAN
Vasilev LOAN
Bell-Baggie LOAN

sign a decent centre half to partner mills. A left back if Armstrong retires. A right back. A centre forward to replace rasiak. Get the big earners - ivar, cisse, marek, rasiak and maybe even bryn if the cost cuttings needs to stretch to include him. I see him as a useful squad player.

NEEDS:

Full backs, 1 of each
Winger, to push the ones we have
striker, a younger target man to replace Rasiak long term

*edit: forgot Bell-Baggie[/quote]

Just a thought

I recall that a part of the Kitson loan back from Stoke was that they still owed money on him, so a deal could be done if we got promoted.

I expect that Stoke must have a least another year of instalments to pay us for Kits, so could the outstanding amount not be used in a deal to keep Griffs, this may also help us on his wages.

Nice list, but it may be a little dangerous not having a backup goalkeeper on the bench. Just my personal opinion.

Hamer,Andersen and McCarthy all have the potential to be great keepers and all had rave reviews about them while they were at loan. Hopefully all can prove themselves in the pre-season. The rest who can't we could either ship them out on loan or just sell them IMHO.

Can't see Bozanic staying if Kevin Dillon sent him back from Aldershot early.

Wimb Bit early and all that, but why not get the ball rolling.

Below is a listing of our squad as it stands now, say who you'd keep, sell, or loan out and at the bottom list positions we need investment. No conferring.

Now the season is over, this is my current opinion. I think we could get by with 3 centrebacks of the quality of Zurab, Mills and Pearce. Although a fourth would be nice. I'd like to keep Davies as back up for the Sig. Karacan as back up for Tabb & Howard. (gunnar staying as emergency cover as I think he just signed a new deal)

Long just doesn't perform consistently. He's played well recently, but not that well and hasn't been scoring again. I'd like some fresh, reasonably experienced but mobile blood in upfront to replace him and Mooney. Marek is a luxury we can't afford. Cisse as a defender I'd tak as emergency back up, but we don't need him and Gunnar and I think it's time he moved on.

GK's

Federici 1st choice
Andersen 2nd choice
Hamer loan
McCarthy loan

Defenders

Rosenior Go and never come back
Armstrong retire
Kelly loan / 2nd choice
Cummings 2nd choice
Mills 1st choice
Ingimarsson release
Pearce 1st / 2nd choice

Midfielders

McAnuff 1st choice
Cisse release / sell
Gunnarsson release, but happy to keep on a low basic wage
Tabb 1st choice
Matejovsky sell
Henry sell / 2nd choice
Karacan 2nd choice
Kebe 1st choice
Sigurdsson 1st choice
Davies 2nd choice
Antonio 2nd choice / loan
Howard 1st choice
Bryant loan
Taylor loan
Bozanic release
Robson-Kanu 2nd choice

Forwards

Long sell (price will be good - don't rate him as a consistent performer)
Hunt 1st / 2nd choice
Mooney release / sell
Church 1st / 2nd choice
Rasiak 2nd choice
Bignall loan
Vasilev loan / release
Bell-Baggie loan
Thorvaldsson release

NEEDS:

Griffin (or right back)
Zurab (or centreback / Ivar)- possibly +1 more
Bertrand ( or left back)
Striker
Left winger
