SCIAG Hello. Kadzidlo, the Reading researcher for Sports Interactive, is busy doing the important stuff (i.e. making McAnuff better than Ronaldo etc.), so he asked me to find out the following:
Lowest Attendance
Oldest player
Most games without conceding/scoring
Highest scorer in one season- Archie?
most goals in one match- I'm pretty sure this is the 18-0 defeat
Youngest and Oldest goal scorers - wasn't youngest set quite recently?
For the attendance, only home matches count. All statistics relate to competitive matches, except the streaks, which are league matches only (no cups).
If any of you are aware of the holders of any of these records, or can make an informed guess- if you know of a 56 year old to play for Reading and score- then it would be much appreciated if you replied here saying so.
We'd also need relevant dates, and the opposing side, if possible.
Thanks in advance
Lowest home league attendance is 1,713 v Preston 02/10/82. We lost 3-2, despite Kerry Dixon scoring twice. Goals from Steve Elliott (2) and Alex Bruce sent us to the bottom of the Div 3 table for the first and fortunaltely only time that season. (We still got relegated, finishing 21st). (BTBB is also correct in that the 1136 watching the Associate Members Cup qualifying game 18/08/82 was the lowest "first class" RFC home attendance, with us winning 4-2).
RFC's oldest player to start a League games might have been John H Smith who started the game v Brighton on 03/04/1926 aged 45½ (born November 1880), but I'm not sure whether his DoB is actually correct as his career was cut short by injury, and yet he only made just over 100 league start from 1923 to 1926??.
Youngest goalscorer is Neil Webb who scored in the 4-1 home win v Swindon in old D3 on 30/08/80 aged 17 years 32 days.
Oldest goalscorer is either John H Smith (if you accept hsi Nov 1880 DOb) who was 45 years 117 days when he scored in teh 3-1 away win v Plymouth on 27/02/1926. Assuming his DoB is wrong, the next oldest is Les Ferdinand, who scored in teh 1-2 home defeat in the Championship v Coventry 19/02/2005 aged 38 years 74 days.
Hopefully Alan Sedunary will confirm John H Smith's DoB??
Most league games without conceding was the 1103 minutes by Steve Death, as per other posters.
We've had 2 League runs of 6 games without scoring, 29/03/08 to 03/05/08 inclusive, and 13/04/25 to 30/04/25.
Highest League goalscorer in a single seaosn was Ronnie Blackman with 39 league (plus 1 FAC) goals in 1951-52 season. (Could have sworn he had 41 in a season but can't find it anywhere).
Most goals in one match - do you mean total aggregate scored (then it's the 18-0 FAC reverse to Preston 27/01/1894). If it's RFC goalscorer in a single game it's Alf Bacon with 6 in a 7-3 Div 2 win v Stoke in 1930-31 relegation season, 03/04/1931.
