But I return to Pants Day. That wasn't just a chance to rubbish the players, manager or board. It was as much about rousing the fans out of their pretty apathetic torpor and get a spark back. Did it work ? No idea really but it struck a chord and other things followed and it got a bit of something back into the club that Mad Dog and Matt Robinson added to.
That wasn't how I saw it! How did"
Players
Are
Not Trying
Sufficiently" link to the fans having been apathetic. It's a viscious circle really - the players look like they're not trying, supporters can't be @rsed to keep cheering them on. What's worse this time around is that it isn't really the fact that the players aren't trying, it's the inept tactics etc from the manager and coaching staff that are leading to woeful performances on the pitch, a lot of supporters feel that the backbone has been ripped out of the club by the "cloth cutting" of the chairman. I really think the players are fully aware of this but they appear to have all but given up themselves now. I would suggest that we do "back the boys" tonight, but IF things don't go our way, I really really think we should be barracking the manager and co, NOT the players. And at the END of the game at that - it's not over til the fat lady sings, as they say. I genuinely feel sorry for the players - it's a shame Ivar isn't playing tonight - I'd have liked to have seen him take the bull by the horns and shout instructions to the players, even if they go against the tactics that BR has dreamt up for them tonight, but as he's not able to play, I can't see ANYONE else in that squad who could take on the mantle of a "leader" on the pitch. And that's another problem.
I've never liked to boo our players and I don't remember even getting so worked up about Burns or Bullivant in the same way I feel about Rodgers. I don't know what it is - the only time I was as pizzed off as this was when Waller wanted to let Maxwell form Thames Valley Royals.
