Our Assistants

by towserSL2crew » 03 Oct 2009 20:00

Wot do Brendans 2 assistants do ? On matchdays Dillon and Wally were very visible and audible as are most assistants of other teams during games. These 2 blokes , Frankie boy and Deano are rarely seen or heard. Surely they should be out there screaming at the lads good or bad during matches, or am I wrong and they are working dilligently behind the scenes to bring success to my beloved football club.

Like they would be allowed to take the camera attention away from BR.

Dillion and Downes took it in turn to do the shouting because Coppell very rarely ventured into his technical area.

Rodgers spends most of his time in his, watching. Leaving no one able to do any shouting.

Couldn't even name his assistant, let alone recognise him. So that says a lot.

Too many invisible nice guys I suspect.

Reckon he could do a lot worse than bring Mick Gooding back in to kick a bit of *rse.

Nobody took it in turns. If any of the three had anything to say (shout), they did. That is clear for all to see on any of the dvds from their time here. Wally more so with the defence, Dill for anything else he would spot, and Coppell when he felt the need to raise his voice.

So remind me when all three were standing in the technical area shouting at players at once then?

Because I was under the imperssion only one person was allowed in it.

I'd love to know how much Frank Lampard Snr - a man with precisely zero managerial experience - gets paid by RFC. We had to remove high earners like Lita from our wage bill yet we can shell out for a coach who doesn't even bother to attend home matches. Football Consultant, what a crock of new age sh*t. Get your f*cking stethoscope out then, Mr Lampard.

I'm sure Lampard Snr gets fcuk all. He's only there a few days a week.

Rodgers is so hands on he doesn't really need much else other than an Assistant and a fitness Coach. Coppell was much more hands of, in training, in every aspect of the club.

Lampard Snr doesn't have a major role, just a guy open doors with his contacts.

I'm not at all happy with what has happened to this club, I don't think a new assistant is the answer though.

I don't think we can expect anyone to be doing much shouting at the moment because I don't think any of them have any clue about how they want the boys to play.

This is the watching and observing phase.

I am sure once he begins to suss things out and builds a system he feels will work then he and his assistants will be barking orders out.

I'm not being funny though, but he really should have figured out what he is trying to do by know.

I'm just not sure he's a ranter or that he wants his coaches to be either.

It does seem a bit good cop, good cop at the moment. Though we only see the public face of it.

Have you ever considered the noise generated by the crowd would overwhelm the voice of one or 2 assistants, which is why you see a lot of managers use hand signals. Plus, they're signed up so they can help with the training, pre-match talk and all other things behind the scenes.

Another pointless thread

Well Brendan has the clapping sorted, no help needed there. How about they did some work getting us to play football? I know standing and clapping comes first, but its worth a try maybe?

oxf*rd off, just oxf*rd off. That's oxf*rd ridiculous. He's had all preseason to work out what everyone can do and what formation to play. He then extended preseason into the actual season to carry on. He's now had 13 competitive matches.

Anyone who still thanks that is watch and observe time, when the team is playing like a bunch of clueless oxf*rd can oxf*rd off and die as far as I'm concerned.

We're definitely past the observing stage. Time for action and results. I think they will come. But then again they may not.

And not particularly happy having Lampard around...

Plymouth Royal,

You could have heard a pin drop saturday. And pretty much every other home game this season.

I actually managed to have a kip in the first half of the Donny game.

Mate I can understand your frustrations.

But let's calm down a bit. We got a great win away to Preston and a not-too-unreasonable defeat against a top team.

Yet we're focussing on the loss.

Anyone who thinks we can decimate the whole team, the backroom staff, everything and get back to where we were overnight is being a little too optimistic in my opinion. It will take time.

I would like to know what exactly it is in peoples' minds that makes them think we can put together a promotion pushing team in a few weeks. It just doesn't make sense and I have to say I'm rather baffled at where this is all coming from. If building a Premworthy team just needs a few academy players, a couple of loanees, a ragbag of signings of only £3million and a few weeks of preparation then you have to ask whynoone else has cottoned onto this secret formula.

My understanding is that we employed a football manager, not a magician.

I thoroughly understand your anger though - I'm on your side as a fellow upset Reading fan, and after my rantings and ravings against BR before he joined trust me I'd be the first to shout out a smug "I told you so" to all the BR lovers and certain anti-Coppellites who wanted the swap. But rationality has the better of my blue-and-white blooded emotions and looking at the bigger picture I just can't justify it yet. It's very very early days and a very turbulent period. Noone can reaonably make any judgement n the poor lad just yet without looking rash and shortisghted. Roll with it for now. A couple of wins and we'll all be smiling.

Reading till I die.
