Good post Aly.

Club captain who hasn't played a game this season slagging off the team isn't going to help anyone.

Anyone who thinks the players don't want promotion and aren't trying is an idiot. The problem is totally different to that. Although the performances can certainly look a little like it.

They're frustrated, unsure, hesitant and lacking in confidence and ideas. That isn't the same as not caring and not trying.

Ive always liked Murts, I think the comments have been a little unfair, He is the most approachable player Reading have, he doesnt come across as being an arse sniffer.

I am, because I still believe that he is and would be a massive inspiration.
As I have said before, with that theory, Arsenal fans would have wanted Tony Adams and where would that have got them?
Murty is articulate (even if you do not agree with everything that he says). Adams, by contrast, does not come over very well in in terviews and, although one of the great players on the pitch, was never able to match his footballing skills with positive, inspirational comments off the field. That said, I do think that he was left hanging in the breeze at Portsmouth.
You are saying that with hindsight though. My point is that as he came to the end of his playing career the like minded fans would have said give him a job before he got anywhere near Portsmouth because he was there a long time.
Just because Murty is articulate and has been at Reading a long time does not automatically make him good as a coach/manager etc.

Agreed, but younger, inexperienced players are given a boost by positive coaxing by Murts. On the field, we have been lacking a leader (only Ivar coming anywhere close). I would like to see him in some broader capacity. After all, golf has its non-playing captains.

Can't argue with that. Then again, has Murts actually done time for drink driving? I think what we are looking at here is the position of the role model. Murts is one. TA is not.

Tony Adams is a very decent role model for actually turning his life around and getting himself sorted out and not only that, but founding a clinic to help others do the same. Possibly not one in a footballing manager sort of way, but the circumstances didn't help. Murts is untried and untested as yet.

He's a club legend and always will be, but he's on borrowed time now.

royalexile Agreed southbank. Sound bites are sound bites. Murts can only go so far in speaking the truth in such a public domain. That is best kept behind the scenes. To motivate anyone you push them but don't destroy them. There's a fine line between motivation and de-motivation. It's really that simple.

He could quite simply state that 'we, the players, are not performing anywhere near as well as we need to if we want to get promoted and I can understand why the supporters are getting so frustrated'.

He was pushed about the mental strength and bottle of the side though so he had to give some response to the criticism

I think he did admit that we werent playing as well as we have been

Always take what Graham 'yes Mr Chairman' Murty says with a large dose of scepticism.

This is the bloke who this time last year vigorously denied that there was any discontent in the squad, 'that idea is ridiculous' were his exact words.

Few weeks later and Duberry, Kitson, Hahnemann etc came out with the truth that actually there was widespread conflict between players as we headed to our last day relegation.

Nice bloke etc but dont expect the truth on RFC matters

Since when is anyone going to openly and publicly criticise their employers?

Accept the Murty slot on BBCRB for what it is. A PR stunt to enable a seasoned pro to talk on air and be considered a normal Joe.

Why get so wound up about it? If you don't like it, no-one is forcing you to listen.

It may also be worth having a look at some of the comments in the STAR forum regarding the notes of the meetings.

Bloody hell. Is this still running?

I'm not sure what some of you expect from Murty. He's the bloody club captain. Do you expect him to slag his teammates off on the radio? Would it make you happy if he did?

As for Northern Git's comment about "yes, Mr Chairman"... you're a oxf*rd idiot too. You'd rather we'd had a club captain that slated the chairman? Jesus!

I'm no great fan of Sir John's and everyone can see things aren't going great.... but to pick up on Murty's contribution to Radio Berkshire is peurile and infantile.

Murty does a reasonable job on a programme hosted by an idiot, that clearly knows nothing about football, but has to pretend to for his audience. An audience that obviously includes Northern Git.

No I would not, however, if you heard the interview, post the last match last season, Mr Mad spoke to him like he was some naughty schoolboy and Murty kept responding by 'yes Mr Chairman' 'yes Mr Chairman'.

You are correct on one thing tho - I am an oxf*rd idiot - I renewed my season ticket and bought a tickets for Derby and Norwich

Aly Murty No matter what crap he may come out with in the press I for one am sure he will be one of the team's biggest critics behind closed doors. I've seen him in training and he demands so much from himself and the rest of the team, he hates to lose and will let anyone who makes a mistake know in no uncertain terms! He's not stupid but he is the club's mouthpiece every week and needs to try and show a united front, divisions in the camp aren't exactly going to help us now are they?

That says it all. Good post. Let's all stick together and be positive, and not let wound up by certain a*ses on here.

C'mon Murts, C'mon URZ! We're going to Wembley............

Ideal Graeme Murty - Top Man
Royal Spangle - total wakner

I know who I'd rather side with.

Mmm, closely argued point of view.
