Hello all - Just a few points I'd like to make after watching yesterday's game:
We need a big target man up front, someone to hold the ball up whilst creating chances and scoring. Adebola was an excellent example of this yesterday, taking the workload so that the quicker attackers could concerntrate on their game. We do not have a decent target man.Just make do ones like Noel Hunt.. We have Doyle,Lita,Long and even Hunt who all fit the same mould, which is a quick player who can play off a target man. Lita tries to do the job by consistantly backing himself up into defenders, then getting knocked off the ball. Makes me want Kitson back to be honest. And where on earth is Mooney? If he's not good enough then why is he here? Surely the scouts at Reading who from what i see, spend all their life at Cork City training ground could have picked out a promising player who they thought would come in and make an impact at Reading.
It baffles me why Coppell is/ was so loyal to his players, even in the Premiership, we failed to buy any names, look at all the other clubs that go up, they have brought players here and there to ensure their survival. Yes we survived the first season, when nobody knew about us or how we play. But as far as the second season goes - its funny how the club who denied the 'second season syndrome' so veermently, succummed to it so easily. All you read in the programme notes every week was "We're not going to get sucked into all the paper talk of the second season syndrome" when it eventually happened. But that was purely because we stuck by our championship class players and failed to bring in the next step of quality. I am not for one minute saying to lay off all the players which got us up, because there has to be loyalty. I am simply talking about one or two quality signings. Even in the championship, why do we fail to make quality signings in the transfer window? Again, i'm talking about one or two quality signings, who do we bring in? Steven hunt's brother....who to be fair, is better than Steven.. And thats another thing, why we got rid of Bobby Convey is beyond me, creative player, may have not been the loudest on the pitch like Hunt but he created alot. For all Hunt is worth, he looks like he doesn't want to be at the club, scurrying up and down the touchline like a scoulded badger and producing balls that have no results..
The fact that all our game is and has been for the past 3 seasons is get it to the wings, S Hunt cross in - to players who are reletively short and can't actually head the ball isn't good. Thats all our game is - cross in, then gamble that sumone will get on the end of it. Our central midfield may aswell not be there considering we never, ever attack down the middle or shoot for that matter, alwaaays a long game, spreading to the wing, passing it cross the midfield and then crossing, again. And as we have seen, there have been no results come from it as of late which is why we haven't scored a goal ourselves may i add, for a handful of games.
What happened to the free flowing football we were playing when we got promoted? Playing it along the floor and with real precision, that is the football that got us promoted and we beat teams convincingly. Why we play our football up in the air and spend half the game headering the ball around and not actually playing controlled football i shall never know.
One positive that is constantly there is Marek Matjeovski, fantastic creative midfielder and too good for players around him, his brain is so quick and has great vision that the players around him simply don't read him down to the one dimensional football they've been used to playing for the past 3 seasons or so..
We need to change it up if we're to get promoted again, and make no mistakes, it isn't Madjeski or 'the players' who need to change it, Coppell does as he is the tactician and manager of the team. IF 'the players' are to blame like Harper or Hunt, why didn't we sell them off? Instead of them now seemingly not playing for the badge, afterall theres proberbly a few Cork City players we got have for free.
Let me say, I have been going to watch Reading play for 8 seasons now and there is nothing more i'd love than to see them back in the top flight I just think we should all wake up if we're to be promoted.
Thanks all!
