No. You are delaying the 'keeper releasing the ball, so it is an offence whether you try to play the ball or not.
If you hang a leg out when the keeper tries to release, you're likley to get a caution for reckless play.

Maybe. The way I've seen it interpreted has almost always been - be in the way = not a foul, get in the way = foul.

If the keeper tries to run through a crowd of players then they aren;t obstructing him - he's trying to go somewhere he has no real right to go. But if the players actively get in his way then they are obstructing him. If they try and play the ball (which by definition is in his hands) then it's dangerous play and probably a caution (as I think my colleague mentioned !!)

There is no question that Marcus has been outstanding for us during our advancement over the past few years, but Fed has waited patiently for his chance and has taken it with both hands he has looked very competant and his distribution is outstanding, however much I have enjoyed watching USA in between our goalposts I have to agree with the rest on this thread that there is absolutely no justification in leaving him out when USA is fit again, Fed is young, outstanding potential, good hands and the back four seem completely confident in his ability to catch and hold on to the ball when he comes for corners, free kicks etc.............

Personally, I can see Federici being capable of surviving in the premiership, whereas as Hahnemann ages he may start to make costly errors.

Great story. Didn't he pay his own way over here, slept on friends' floors, was non-contract for quite a long time as third or fourth choice keeper. It's a great testament to his determination.

Fed,s all round game is perfect for 08/09 Royals, but how good is it to see a keeper actually hold the ball after a canon shot rather than panda it to anyone in the box.

A word of advice to you die-hard Royal supporters who are lucky enough to go every game, if you want ' The Fed ' to play the game of his life ( it could be Wolves, or the next 19 fixtures ?,) make a banner where its in good veiw of him saying:-

Not really sure what you mean by 'waving a leg out' but it gets given if a striker impedes the keeper intentionally. He doesn;t need to wave anything.

I assume the thread heading means that on his current form he has effectively earnt the shirt and Marcus will have to wait his opportunity on the bench.I totally agree. Obviously footy is a "funny old game" and next week the Fedster could have a howler and with keepers that can have devestating effects.
What is excellent is that on form we have 2 quality keepers jockeying for the Keepers jersey which is exactly what we require if we are going to crack on and gain promo to the FTSE league and onwards and upwards.
Obviously should the thread title mean "stay" regardless that is obviously do lally in this game.
Marcus has been a fantastic servant for the club and a massive part in our progess and success of recent years.I hope the general rule that keepers remain at the top of their game well into their late 30`s applies to our bald one.

There is certainly no must, unless we're talking about in getting him ready to be first choice 'keeper for next season in the Prem, should we make it.

Fed was fantastic against Watford. claimed well, distribution was great. I'm very pleased for him. He'll keep the shirt for now. Marcus will have to do a lot to displace him, unless he fouls up.

I won't be getting too excited just yet, early days for him.

Also did marvelous things for us, prior to getting injured whilst playing for us.

A one-on one eventually ended his career on our behalf, I recall.
