Hopefully goal difference will not be a factor this season. The tension of a 1-0 or a 3-0. I know which i would rather have. Also the signal sent out when tonking a team is that we are pretty invincible at home at the mo. As football also factors in psyche it is a very potent singal of intent the team needs to send out.

I would take 6 x 6-0 wins.

But it's all quite moot. One win away does not sort the away form. Preston should be a tough game.

A win by any margin, be it a goal which was not a goal or a penalty which shouldn't have been (although I don't like these, I'd still take them) which helps us win, I'd be happy with that. Football will always have mistakes until VidRefs come in, and even then it won't be perfect. :mrgreen:

leads to a totally different goal difference and therefore must surely be a worthless comparison.

You could possibly get away with 6 1-0s or 1 6-0 and 5 games in hand. But even that is pushing it IMO.


I'd prefer.
1-0, 1-0, 1-0, 1-0, 1-0, 1-0 rather than win one game 6-0 and lose the other 5.
It's obvious.


So obvious as to be a completely worthless addition to the debate?

Like saying I'd prefer to win £1m than win £100 and then be fined for £100k

Whistle I think we got 112 in 1951/2 from memory.

Dunno the record for this division but expect it's about 120 in 42 games. I think the reocrd for 46 game season is about 135.


The record for all divisions was in 1960/61 when Peterborough scored 134 in division 4 (46 games)
The record for the equivalent of this division in 1926/27 when Middlesbrough scored 122 in division 2 (42 games)

But if you think about it, if we score more goals than the opponents, then more often than not, we'll get the points.


This season we won't even have to do that to get the points so long as we get the Watford officials every game....

Even as an RTG I think we have more chance of 100 goals than 107 points. The latter is very unlikely but 100 goals is attainable if we keep our top players in January.

I seriously look at a team like Doncaster (who are shipping goals) and think if we can get 4 against Swansea and 3 against Burnley then 8 plus against a poor team must be a possibility - if the players want to bury them of course.

Thaumagurist* In 2005/6, we failed to score 100 goals by just one measly goal. I'd like to pose the question (though I could easily find out for myself, but you can do it if you want to), have we ever scored more than one hundred league goals in one season?

As we have scored 26 goals in 10 games so far, does anyone reckon we can break the record of goals scored in this division? What's the current record anyway, does anyone know?


I was going to start a thread along these lines myself as I do think its possible we could score 100 goals this season. Not only because we're thumping teams atm, but also because i think the Championship is probably weaker this season than it was in 05/06.
