How much patience do you have?

by Blue and White Toucan » 15 Aug 2008 13:59

With the current murmerings and even down right attacks on the way the Club/Team/Transfers in and out are being handled right now I wondered what the majority thought and their patience threshold?

Will we see season tickets on the pitch in January or is everyone happy going along with the 'longer term plan' - whatever it might be?!?

I'm not happy at all, but we have to be realistic and wonder whether a different manager could get more out of this current squad than Coppell, and I doubt that. If we aren't in the play-offs or higher at Xmas, then he should go.

So far no votes for "Oblivious - I Never question what the club does " winchester_royal and RR obviously haven't read this thread yet.

LOL @ "Will give it 3 years before I expect to be back in the Prem under existing set up " amounting to "lots" of patience.

For me, it depends on how we're playing rather than a specific target of getting into the Premiership within x years.

Will we see season tickets on the pitch in January ?

That always reminds me of that bloke at Boro who threw his season ticket at McClaren then 2months later begged the club to give it back to him when they reached the League Cup Final.

All but lost faith with chairman and management. No one knows who's to blame, but someone is holding this club back and I'm pissed off putting my money in when someone else isn't putting it to good use on the field.

To be honest about 3 of those apply to me.

Running low on patience, will be pissed off if we don't buy a left back/ left winger and preferably a right winger as well.

However I'll wait until we've played at least 10 games and have an idea of how we'll perform before I start getting militant. Coppell will always have my appreciation and respect as the greatest manager we've had, but there may come a point when it's clear for all it's best he takes his break and comes back recharged elsewhere.

Hopefully that won't be until at least the end of the season, but it's looking frighteningly like it might be by the end of December at this rate. Still, we're unbeaten and yet to conceed a goal in the league. Perfromances can pick up and we could still do really well.

Running out of patience for what?

Some incoming transfer news will be great but beyond that I'm not sure what I'm meant to be running out of patience about. Do I want us to go up this year? Yes.

Will it be the end of the world if we don't? No.

If we struggle, regardless of how we play then I'll see it's time for a change. If we continue to play akin to the opening games, then yeah I wouldn't be overly excited by it - if we do well with it though then I'll accept it for the time being.

If we don't have a left back by Charlton I will be severely pissed off. Hunt will prove himself to be an ineffective stop gap against Plymouth. Would happily let Griffiths walk into the 1st team atm but know in my heart of hearts this is going to be incredibly unlikely.

One draw, one win, mediocre play. Only impatient for the next game.

Why is everyone going on about our win. It was in the League Cup and was against a team that, on paper, we should have crucified. Instead, we score a winner in the 89th minute. If we'd beaten them about 6-0 and were on top of them the whole game, I'd have a lot more optimism, despite "only" drawing in the league with Forest. As it is, nothing we've done in the last two matches has given me anything to be really positive about for the forthcoming season.

But it was still a win, something 7 CCC teams didn't manage. Yes the performance wasn't great but we won. That happens sometimes.

Equally nothing in the last two performances has given me anything to get negative about. Performances can improve and we haven't lost with them being shocking. If the shocking performances continue and the results go with them, then I'll be worried.

OK maybe there is a point here but surely you must be extremely frustrated that the Club, which tells us there is money to spend even before selling 2 players for circa £8million and cutting another 4 higher earners off the wage bill, does not seem to have any football muscle to even replace players let alone add new ones!!

If you take Birmingham they have keeped most of the squad together and added players to it who will do a job for them. Kevin Philips for example. This shows the fans the club is going to push hard for promotion back to the Prem.

It feels to me that the message we are being sent out is 'we are struggling to find the right player for the right money i.e we won't spend more that £2million on a player even if we are short in any position and we will make do with what we have'

And then if we are making do we should all be grateful when we finish mid table because the players have had to adjust this year.

We don't have a right to know everything that goes on but the way things are going the natives are getting restless and the Club appear to doing nothing to appease them.

What on earth are we thinking moving a midfielder who was player of the year last year to fill in at fullback when we have 'money' to spend. Its a joke.

Sorry rant over.

Thats a very selective view of things.

My main points of contention would be I don't recall us saying we had money to spend before flogging players for millions. I'd hazard an educated guess that we didn't get a total of £8m up front either. Closer to £5m - £6m probably.

And of course, Birmingham have lost no fewer players than us in all probability, the grass as they say, always looks greener. Personally I'm rather happy we aren't Birmingham. Board room problems, police investigations, fewer STHs.
