Teams for last few games this season..

by Crowthorne Royal » 16 May 2007 08:12

Let's be clear, this is in no way criticising Mr.Coppell who has worked wonders for our club. I love the way he's handled the media this season too. Compare this to Mr Warnock and Coppell wins hands down.

My question is thus ; Players like Bikey & Halford in particular must wonder what Steve's selection policy is. Halford has yo'yo'd in and out of the 16, Duberry suddenly appears to be No.1 over Bikey ? To me Bikey is the more accomplished player. Why has Steve not tried Bikey in midfield ? I believe he can play there and Steve has tried virtually every other combination recently. Also, when does Alan Bennett get a chance or Simon Cox ? I'm sure the wise one has a master plan and knows exactly what he's doing but I have been baffled by selections recently.
One final thing - Who knows if Coppell wanted Europe or not ? that is unclear. If he did however why not play our strongest side against Blackburn, Long seemed a strange choice on the day...

Whatever he selected we could have said 'why didn't he...'

We know Long is the better prospect so does it make more sense to give him a few games to develop when Cox has already had quite a few at Northampton ?

Bikey has also played a fair few games and neither he nor Duberry are likely to feature once Sonks is back so has it made sense to let Duberry show what he can do now allwoing Coppell to get his packing order for next season established ?

I'm not sure where Bikey would feature in midfield, but to have given Oster and Gunnar some games has proved we can cope without Siddy !

Coppell has explained the Halford situation and I think he'll be looking on the games he has played as a bonus rather than worrying about the ones he hasn;t. I'm sure Coppell has explained it to him !

From the outside it can be hard to work it out - and then we learn things like Seol has been injured and you make sense of a few things.

Overall message though is Coppell has earned our faith - he'll either have got it right or deserves a bit of slack and to be able to get it wrong once or twice !

What a stupid comment, Crowthorne said repeatedly that he wasn't criticising Coppell, just that he's baffled by selections.

From Charlton away onwards, we've clearly been experimenting/rotating in a way that i'm sure we wouldn't have had we been in a relegation fight. That would suggest that qualifying for Europe was not a priority.

I'm sure he's learnt a lot about some of his squad that he otherwise would not have but there was the risk of a trade ofw with the results, though, in hindsight, one could argue that the number of points collected in the last few games was more or less in line with expectations anyway.

That coppell bloke hasn't got a clue.... 3 wins and a draw in the last 5 games...bloody rubbish.

As for team selection at Blackburn...the strikers hardly set the world on fire against Watford. As much as I love Kit's he hasn't got any pace and maybe the thicko Coppell thought that two pacey front men against a fairly average defence may be a good idea.

Coppell is a genius and we missed out on Europe by not securing 1 more point over the entire season. His skill and craft as a manager has been recognised for the second year running by fellow managers, maybe you could recognise it too.

Coppell is god and his decisions may never be questioned - Wine gums anyone!!!!

It's the Team board... I'm allowed to be facetious... Besides he only once said he was not criticising Coppell (hardly repeatedly), before what looks to me like a whole paragraph of critiscm....

Anyway...

We are not managers, Steve Coppell is. I'm sure he knew exactly what he was doing, and lets face it, none of us are in any place to query it. Just like I would not attempt to question your knowledge on mortgages (or whatever financial product you work with), I would not questions Coppell's knowledge in football.

Duberry was picked as he has more experience then Bikey at a crucial time of the season. Oster and Gunnarson were above him for the pecking order for CM. Simon Cox was on loan. I could go on defending his selections, but I think you catch my drift...
