Quagmire Good interview with him on SSN earlier, he said that he hopes to be back in training this week. He did point out that he would find it difficult to get back in the side due to the way the strikers are currently playing.

Fair play to him.

you dont get players admitting that its difficult to break back into teams that often so fair play to doyle for it. glad to hear that he's heading back to training soon, can only mean good knew if u are a reading fan.

There was better news regarding Doyle, though, as the Republic of Ireland striker is making good progress on the hamstring strain he suffered during Royals’ 1-1 draw at Everton on January 13.

He has already done light running and is hoping to join in tomorrow’s full training session.

Doyle said: “I should be training with all the lads if Fearny lets me. I did some good running on Monday and didn’t feel anything so fingers crossed for Saturday.

“Tomorrow is the big day for me, but if I’m not ready for Villa then I will definitely be ready for the Cup game against Manchester United the week after.â€

I guess the way Coppell plays it we'll see Doyle sit out the Villa game and start the Man Utd game. Silly to risk Doyle early what with Long and Lita on form and Kitson getting back. Then the cup game can be used to increase his fitness, just as Birmingham was for Kitson. Works for everyone - fans are happy because it increases the quality of our cup side, without suggesting to Lita and Long that Doyle will immediately get the nod over them (because it's "only" a cup game).
