Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2024/25

Toby Borgnis (U18 goalkeeper, and younger brother of Jacob) has been called up by New Zealand for the U17 World Cup in Qatar. They are in a group with Saudi Arabia, Mali and Austria, starting on 5 November. Another Reading call-up to the U17 World Cup - midfielder Lucas Daka for Zambia. He was at a...

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2024/25

Some recent information from younger age groups: U17 Premier League Cup Reading results so far - lost 4-6 at home to West Brom, beat Wolves 3-1 away. Next game is at home to Swansea on Wednesday. If we win or draw against Swansea, our almost certain finish is second in the group, but I don't know if...

U 18’s 1 West Ham 0 Ntege 39 mins H-T 1-0 1-1 73 mins 2-1 86 mins Netgee F-T 2-1 The scorers are the Ntege twins, who turned 16 last week. I've seen a not very clear video and both goals looked a bit odd as they looped over the keeper. First one (Rabbi Ntege) probably deflected, not sure if the sec...

10 a side- 1 sent off from each. Ryan for Reading- off the ball incident in 65 mins. 1-1 75 mins Does the Ryan sending off and suspension affect first games? Having just read the rules, my best interpretation is that any suspension applies only to Premier League 2 and Premier League Cup. Ryan could...

How many subs are we allowed on the bench at this level? It looks like we named five. Allowed 5 substitutes, but unlimited substitutions - "A Player who has been substituted becomes a substitute and may replace a Player at any time". Goes up to 7 substitutes (but only 5 substitutions) at ...

In the U18 game at Ipswich George Booth missed a penalty when it was still 0-1. Not related to the keeper's red card, which came a bit later.

Anthony Dove is in the U18 Premier League team of the week (think that must be for games last week).

Re: Fixtures 2025/26

Neil Ryan’s MU18s are also in Spain for a mini-tournament being held in Cadiz, as they begin their preparations for the FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar this winter. This is quite a relevant point. Garcia is 32 days too old to play in this year's U17 World Cup. So if England are using the U18 fixtures t...

Royals and Racers Arsenal U 18’s v Reading U 18’s
Arsenal 1 Reading 0 14 mins
2-0 25 mins
H-T 2-0
3-0 55 mins
4-0 88 mins
F-T 4-0

Meant to post at the time, but never got round to it. In this game back in April, all 4 Arsenal goals were scored by 15-year-old Max Dowman, who made his Premier League debut this week.

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2024/25

Some news from the U16s. Last week they beat Spurs 3-0 and yesterday beat Leicester 4-0. Games (so far) have been played on the next pitch to the U18 match. Also, I think some second half U18 subs have played the first half for the U16s.

Noel Hunt interview after the match - "If you run as fast as you can for 4 or 5 seconds, you can cover 50 or 60 metres."

Before last night, the 60m world record was 6.34 seconds, and that wasn't on grass.

As a gentleman of leisure I went to the victory celebration and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was much better in person than on the TV, particularly the open-top bus. It's interesting that most people wanted to see the players, but what I really wanted to see was the trophy. All good practice for next ...

U18s had been down to play Thatcham away today, but that game got called off. Instead our U18s played Brentford at Loughborough this morning and drew 1-1. And I think that the U16s drew 2-2 with Kingstonian U18s today, but that's not for definite. Lots of scholarships signed in recent weeks, so migh...

I ran Gittens' details through a compensation calculator (had to guess some elements) and it showed Reading's fee as €300k.
