Re: Arthur Wilkie - goalkeeping record holder

Arthur also played as a winger for the reserves a few times in his last season at Elm Park.

Re: How many of our players have "won something"

Tomasz Cywka was part of the Gwarek Zabrze team that won the 2006 Polish U-19 Championship.
Not sure if he gets a Championship medal , but Ethan Gage was part of the Vancouver Whitecaps team that won the USL in 2008.

Re: Reflections

An excellent post and some good memories E&B. Hi, Croydon Royal - thanks for your comments. The answer to your question is that in August 1962 our goalie Arthur Wilkie injured his arm playing against Halifax and was unable to continue in goal. No substitutes in those days, so he moved to the win...

Re: Let's not celebrate until we get the title

I'm having a few drops of whiskey now and will keep the champagne on ice for the title. Does that seem like a fair compromise?

Re: The Robon Friday Wonder Goal v Tranmere 1976

What about Senior's goal from just inside the opposition half out on the right by the clock? Hat-trick v Colchester in Lge Cup 1983 According to Trevor this wasn't even the best goal he ever scored, which came from a volley from the edge of the box a few days later in the league at Elm Park in a 1-...

http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSYgqqmTMuJjAJc_j3CJeWYtxjQqfxnJ_Gk6YCnSZU8LCpDUSk1bQ I'd almost forgotten about this one. 3,820 turned up at Elm Park to see New Zealand beat us 2-1 that evening. Quoting the Evening Post clipping I found in the programme I still have, 'He arrogantly nutmegg...

Re: Players with honours

Though his days with Reading were long behind him, Shaka Hislop was honoured by Trinidad and Tobago.
Jimmy Hill played for the reserves a few times, again a long time before he got his OBE.
Was Les Ferdinand still on Reading's books when he got his award?

Re: Your first ever away win

May 1983 Oxford Utd 1 Reading 2
With the threat of the merger, a lot of abuse was aimed at Maxwell and Waller, and a Kerry Dixon penalty won it for us, after someone had ran onto the pitch and booted the ball off the spot in front of a packed Manor Ground.

Good call Fox. It was fourth round day, but we were knocked out in the third round by Barnsley!

Re: Goals you wish Reading hadn't scored

Trevor Senior's stupidly late winner v Barry Town in the FA Cup back in 1984. Complete and total carnage as soon as that went in. Without doubt, the most horrible experience I have ever had at a Reading game. I don't think I can recall a more intimidating atmosphere at any other match I've ever bee...

Re: Robin Friday

Of the lineup that faced Workington at Elm Park in 1975 in the first football match I ever went to, Robin is still the first name I remember and an inspiration in the choice of Reading as my team rather than any of the London clubs most of my schoolmates followed. Absolute legend.
