Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2024/25

Travis Clayton - currently an offensive tackler for the Buffalo Bills in NFL. As the resident American, I must correct this term to 'offensive tackle'. And, in the grand tradition of American 'football' players not really using their feet, an offensive tackle is someone who prevents the defense fro...

Re: England - the future....

The game Southgate will always regret is Italy. When we lost to Croatia, we were an inexperienced team who weren't ready. Against France in 2022, we matched a top side and lost out on fine margins that can go against you at that level. Last year, Spain were a class team who could well go on a strea...

Re: England - the future....

Not really, the effect of a match depends quite heavily on two things. *(perceived) importance of game *gap between teams using the example of England being 4th and playing a team in 5th or 15th, the difference given in the algorithm between the two is tiny (the key parameter is 0.50 for 5th and 0....

Re: England - the future....

Our ranking is possibly somewhat inflated; beating relatively good teams (i.e. top 15) in tournaments adds points. Not really, the effect of a match depends quite heavily on two things. *(perceived) importance of game *gap between teams using the example of England being 4th and playing a team in 5...

Sutekh Has Rob/Todd started a Reading Exiles club in New Orleans yet?

If they open a Reading FC bar there I'm all up for a trip. New Orleans is meant to be one of the best US cities to visit and was already on my list to tick off.

Also on my list

But post Trump...

Re: On this day......

This. Or lost 2-1 at Fulham instead of 3-1. The annoying thing was that in both games Fulham scored their last goal in sodding injury time  From memory they hit the woodwork 3 times! What made that performance worse was Fulham had the worst away record in the premiership. Yet they played u...

Crusader Royal
Snowflake Royal Bedwetters would be an alternative.

All about you again isn’t it …..

(Meant as a numerous aside rather than a genuine attempt to be unpleasant and start a fight….
)

Could be a useful addition to most posts!

Humorous not numerous though

This, because I know they spent forever in the same division, is Rochdale https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/d/d8/Rochdale_AFC_League_Performance.svg/2560px-Rochdale_AFC_League_Performance.svg.png Flatlined for 30+ years. You may be taking this a bit literally Maybe so but I like ...

Re: The Non - League thread

Brackley have finally done it! :D National League here we come.... Never saw it coming tbh A very comfortable win against bottom placed Farsley was predictable. Southport (with nothing to play for) beating leaders Kidderminster 2 1 was far from anyone's thinking Great day for the club Great atmosphe...

Re: The Non - League thread

As mentioned on the previous page there is a good chance Brackley will be denied by an inferior goal difference. And then we all (well me anyway!) know what happens in the playoffs...

If Brackley and Reading both lose out on goal difference I may have to give football a wide berth for a while :D

Re: MATCHWATCH : Mansfield Town (a)

BFTG - An away day to remember, I can't remember us scoring so many and the players seemed so into the win. The away end was pretty full and since it was miserable weather a lot of those lower down getting wet, stood in the ailses, so that probably added to the great atmosphere. It rained from when...

tidus_mi2 This is going far too well, Leyton still behind, Huiddersfield out of the play-off picture, Bolton and Blackpool almost out. Continues like this it's a straight shot between ourselves and Leyton.
