Life doesn't get any easier for former Reading manager Brian McDermott. Exactly a year after he was harshly kicked out of Reading Football Club he looks to have a very short future ahead of him at Leeds United. After already being very publicly dismissed as Leeds manager, only to be reinstated the next day, his side continue to slide down the league table on the back of heavy home defeats. There's plenty going on at the club outside McDermott's control in a situation that is much further up the turmoil scale than Reading FC's current lack of new owners. McDermott's days are numbered and it must be tough turning up and trying to get results. New Reading manager Nigel Adkins successfully turned McDermott's misfortune to his advantage with a big win at Elland Road on Tuesday night. Reading were 4-0 up at one point before eventually turning out 4-2 winners - and that came after a run that saw just one win in five games for the Royals.
After just two goals, and two points, in the last three games for the Royals, McDermott might have expected a better return from this fixture. Instead Reading started the scoring on 24 minutes and added three more with just 54 minutes on the clock. The home side pulled two back in a space of a minute on 63 minutes but could only succeed in making the scoreline look respectable instead of threatening to complete a comeback. McCleary opened the scoring to make it 1-0 to Reading at half time. Immediately after the break Drenthe, having scored his first Reading goal at the weekend, doubled his tally for the season with a great free kick. Two minutes later Guthrie provided the cross that saw Blackman head home. With 54 minutes gone Robson Kanu volleyed home to wrap up Reading's goal scoring for the night.
