Reading finished their pre-season tour of Portugal without a win after a draw against SC Olhanense. Royals boss Brian McDermott was less than impressed with the opposition tactics which seemed at odds with the fixture's description as a friendly. McDermott highlighted the best part of the game as coming out with no injuries following some rough tackles by the Portuguese first division side. Guthrie scored Reading's only goal to put the Royals ahead at the break. In the second half Nicky Shorey was judged to have handled the ball in the area and the home side equalised from the spot to make it 1-1 at full time.
