Nigel Adkins first game in charge of Reading saw Arsenal deliver a comprehensive defeat to his new side. Reading's seventh straight defeat - the sixth consecutive league defeat - saw Reading hit bottom of the Premier League table on goal difference. This was always going to be a defeat against the side that always score freely against the Royals and there was never anything to suggest Reading would get overly involved in the game. Arsenal took a 1-0 lead in at the break before adding three more in the second half as they cruised to victory. Robson-Kanu scored what served to be a consolation goal to make it 3-1 with just over 20 minutes remaining. Nigel Adkins now has seven remaining Premier League games to work out what to do with the squad to prepare for life in the Championship next season.
