As expected today, Reading have completed the signing of Sheffield United striker Nick Blackman. Blackman signed for an estimated 1.2 million pound transfer fee and joins on a three and a half year contract. Blackman faced Reading in the FA Cup last weekend as the Royals comfortably beat Sheffield United 4-0. Despite his side having limited opportunities in that game he still did enough to impress.

Blackman only signed for League One United in the summer, arriving from Blackburn. Since then he's had a great season and has already hit 14 goals getting himself plenty of attention. During the 2010/2011 season he had successful loan spells at Motherwell and Aberdeen but failed to break into the Blackburn side, making just two starts in the League Cup and a single league appearance off the bench.

Blackman looks like a very useful addition for the Royals, and despite the on-going Ince speculation, could well be McDermott's last activity in the transfer market this January.
