URZZZZ Why is Moyes complaining about the red card? Stick on

Yeah was a definite red card, especially in European football. Guess it was just the disappointment talking. It must be awful to get knocked out in the Europa League semis, its such a slog to get there. At least with the Champions League you get the glamour ties along the way if you make it that far. Europa League is full of dross.

Would have bloody fun from a Frankfurt side even if knocked out last night but guess that is what winning in Barcelona does.

Europa League is also definitely a much bigger deal everywhere except England.

Fantastic result and performance from Glasgow's finest last night and they have got this far without their top striker being available of late.

To knock out Dortmund might be seen as a one-off but to then knock out another leading German side is something else for a team that only ever has 3 or4 proper domestic matches per season-the same would be true of the other lot in Glasgow if they ever achieved much in Europe again.

On the other hand much vaunted West Ham were beaten twice and the overhyped Declan Rice reflected his team, i.e. overhyped.
Will an English club really pay more than £100 million for his services next season?

I think he is a decent defensive midfielder with little imagination when it comes to passing and not much of a goalscorer so the idea that he would be worth more than £100 million seems barmy to me-for that money I would want much more from a player and IMHO Bissouma from Brighton at about £40 million would represent much better value for money.

Rice is my favourite England player. Reckon he will go to a big club and play a central role for them over the next 10 years or more

£100m is silly money though, hardly anyone has that anymore so doubt he would go for that. and a defensive Midfielder from West Ham isn't going to attract that kind of fee either (IMO)

LOL @ Rice being overhyped. Ridiculous opinion.

LUX
Greatwesternline Man City are very Spursy when it comes to the Champions League.

Ironically Spurs have been their least spursy in the Champions League.

Hang on, they’re almost never in it.

The few times they have got in it they've done better than expected, reaching the quarters in their first season, in their third season getting out of a group with Dortmund at the peak of their powers and Real Madrid, then making the final the year after.

Its a lot better than they manage against far more meagre opposition in the lesser Uefa cups.

Agree with that, other than the Glasgow’s finest part!

All the more frustrating for West Ham given they gave up on the league a few weeks back to fully concentrate on winning the Europa League. And I reckon they would have beaten Frankfurt and Rangers in the final

Unless they get proper reinforcements in this summer, think they’d be better off out of Europe completely than the Conference League, flogged their players half to death

Yeah they are about 5 players short. You'd think the owners would want to kick on and back Moyes after this season. A striker is key for them, there is only so long you can rely on Antonio to do the business week in and week out.

You can tell by the way Antonio plays he wants to be out wide. Three of West Ham’s chances last night came from him drifting out wide and saw a stat somewhere that he’s created the most chances (or something along those lines) in the league, isn’t ideal for a lone striker

Problem is, and I guess where the hesitation comes from, is the amount of money wasted on attackers in recent years. Haller, Hernandez, Perez, Fletcher, Zaza  , Anderson (although more a winger I guess) etc etc. Millions wasted and Antonio has outlasted/outperformed all of them

I think he wants Champions League football though (one day) so it will probably be Chelsea.

They did reject him though as a youth player. They are also all over the place with their ownership issues, might put him off.

Q. have English teams under performed in the Europa League/EUFA Cup?

was talking to a German colleague this morning and they were basically saying that we have a strong top 3 (or maybe 2 now) but the rest of the PL is nothing special at all. They were pointing to European performances by English clubs in the Europa/UEFA to back up their opinion

If you include the final coming up in 2 weeks time then England has had 4 winners in past 25 years, which feels a little low

Talking out of his arse...we've had 7 teams in the final in the last decade or so.

We also had 4 teams in the CL where a lot of leagues only had 3. So we lost our 'best' Europa league contender

20/21 Man Utd (L)
18/19 Chelsea (W) v Arsenal (L)
16/17 Man Utd (W)
15/16 Liverpool (L)
12/13 Chelsea (W)
Fulham (L)

Spain has dominated

Germany, none before Frankfurt

12 appearances in the last 20 years of CL (not including LFC in this one)

5 German team appearances
