Home/away drinking at the stadium?

by Adrian's Fool » 23 Feb 2007 11:43

Does anyone know if there's anywhere for home and away fans to drink together at the stadium before a match? e.g. do they let away fans into the hotel?

I want to meet my Man U supporting mate (the FOOL!) on Tuesday night before the match, but we only have half an hour so can't go anywhere else.

Pizza Hut?

;)

If he's drapped in Man Utd garb he won't get in the hotel. It'll be bloody busy though, more so than Chelsea a few years back, so bring a few tins!

If you're a STH, you can go in the Jazz Cafe and sign him in as a guest. Again, it will be really busy in there and unless you get there early you'll probably have to queue to get in.

What is the official rule for the Jazz Cafe? You can sign someone in as a guest, but can that guest be an away fan? Or do they have to be a home fan without a ST?

You can sign in a guest. That guest can be an away fan as long as they aren't wearing colours ie they're not obviously an away fan. We had a Villa fan with us prior to their game.

Thanks for the advice. From the sound of things, seeing as I can only arrive at 7.30 I don't hold out much hope of getting into the hotel or Jazz Cafe .. or at least getting in and getting a drink in time!

Never mind. It may have to be a drinkless meeting.

Get your mate down to that Irish type bar in the Holiday Inn. Just a short walk to the stadium, and I've seen many away fans in there before.
Is it Callaghan's (sp?).

Bet he had to keep his mouth shut! Dead give away if he was a native Villa fan!

I had a couple of pints with my charlton mate in the hotel after that gaem, he had a coat over his Charlton shirt but no trouble at all getting in. Tue night may be a bit more high profile though.

I noticed beer was alowed to be consumed in the West stand on Wednesday night.

Because it wasn't classed as a designated sporting event I would assume - so the same rules apply as at rugby or cricket.

Was it. Bugger, I gulped my beer down just before kick off.

Maybe that was me  I was getting used to the idea very quickly, the only downside was watching out for kids trying to knock my pint.
